PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to protect employees, guests and corporate assets, render all possible assistance to the same constituencies and enforcement of company policies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR PROGRAM PARTICIPATION

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school graduate actively pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following tasks are required. Such duties are considered essential for this program. To perform this position successfully, the intern must possess a demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform each duty proficiently.

  • Stand on duty at an assigned post while directing traffic, visually inspecting ID cards, vehicle access decals and hand stamps
  • Patrol an assigned area on foot to maintain a visible presence while assisting with and responding to guest and employee questions/concerns as well as routine and emergency calls (Such as first aid, fire alarms, crowd control and disturbances)
  • Patrol an assigned area by vehicle to maintain a visible presence and conduct parking lot surveillance as well as assist with traffic control
  • Operate a parking lot tram, if needed
  • Positive interaction with employees and guests to promote a “service” atmosphere
  • Ensure compliance with all SFOT Procedures and Policies by quests and employees.
  • Assist with conflict resolution for guests and employees

Job Summary: Six Flags Over Texas Loss Prevention Agents are responsible for protection of the company's assets. They perform the job by deterring theft, and recovering assets, and apprehending individuals responsible for the losses. Typical loss issues include, but are not limited to; credit card fraud, check fraud, monetary theft, shoplifting, discount abuse, counterfeiting, ticket scalping, and the theft of food, time, tickets, and equipment.

Agents go through extensive classroom and field training prior to being certified and released to carry out their duties. Once trained, an agent can expect to gain experience and proficiency in the above areas as well as: investigations, interviewing, report writing, surveillance, CCTV installation and analysis, detention of offenders, interaction with local and federal law enforcement, and financial and procedural auditing.

Intern, Fall 2008

The internship program of the Texas Music Office (TMO) in the Office of the Governor offers college students the opportunity to develop a working knowledge of the music industry. The TMO seeks students with excellent communication skills who want to learn how the music industry works, and who want to contribute to the TMO's research web publishing and marketing efforts.

TMO internship recipients are required to work at least 10 (and as many as 30) hours each week researching and marketing Texas music businesses, events and talent. Responsibilities include: interviewing Texas music businesses owners; developing business statements based on these interviews; inputting information into the TMO's databases using FileMaker Pro 5.0 software; responding to information requests from industry professionals and the general public; and researching Texas music on the web. Interns also assist TMO staff with administrative duties approximately 35 percent of the time. TMO internships are on a volunteer basis.

The Texas Music Office is the information clearinghouse for the Texas music industry, and is the sister office to the Texas Film Commission. Our website contains 15,089 business, band or event listings totaling 2,744 printed pages and attracts more than 600,000 unique visitors annually. Internship recipients work closely with the TMO staff in compiling and publishing this information, and your work is credited.

Getting started in the Texas music business isn't easy. TMO internships are an excellent way to become aware of important professional contacts who make music their business.

Project Interns

The Far Flung Outdoor Center is pleased to offer a series of project internships that will provide an excellent experience for undergraduate or graduate students seeking to broaden their knowledge of the outdoor travel industry.

Candidates may select one or more of the projects, each of which can be completed over the course of a semester.

The candidate must possess an enthusiasm for the outdoors, enjoy working with the general public and have a willingness to learn in a dynamic environment where conditions and situations may change frequently. The candidate must be a self-starter who can resolve challenges without a great deal of supervision. The candidate needs to have fluency in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access and have a good understanding of file management and small network systems. Candidates should understand that the nature of the work may involve more than 40 hours a week and may not be structured as a standard schedule of 8 hours per day.

Project interns will be initially exposed to the day to day operations of Far Flung Outdoor Center in order to better understand the culture and structure of the organization. After a brief introductory period, the project intern will be responsible for structuring and implementing a work schedule (subject to approval) that completes the assigned projects within a specific time frame. Interns are welcome to take on more than one assignment, but should understand that on time completion is critical to the success of the internship. The intern will report directly to the CEO of Far Flung Outdoor Center.

The compensation package includes a monthly stipend of $750 (payable on the 15th of each month), housing (complete with kitchen facilities) and complimentary outdoor activities and gear.

Interpretation and Training Manual Update and Revision

  • This collection of training materials needs to be updated, revised and converted to an electronic medium. These training materials are used to provide FFOC staff with the basic tools necessary to provide quality trips. This project will be research heavy with regard to the natural and human history of Big Bend .

Policy and Procedure Manuals – Risk Management, Operations, Employee

  • Policies are currently in place for employees, but the manual is in need of update and revision. Risk management and operational policies need to be established in a series of uniform manuals. This project will be business focused and involve working with various FFOC staff to achieve proper “buy-in”

Establishment of a non-profit educational/training company

  • Research and development of a business plan/organizational structure that establishes a non-profit organization dedicated to the training of the general public about the Big Bend .
  • Will involve some background in organizational structure and the ability to visualize how to develop an educational non-profit.

Food Service Database

  • Involves the development of a food purchasing and monitoring system that provides FFOC staff with a specific road map for trip logistics as it pertains to meals. Requires a solid background in database management such as Excel or Access.

Database Management

  • Development of a marketing strategy that targets previous guests as to their trip preferences. Will involve database base mining and the design and implantation of an email campaign. Requires a background in computer related activities.

Design, Build and Operate a Lodging Facility

  • FFOC is currently in the design phase of offering a desert lodging experience that incorporates eco-friendly technology such as water collection, solar and wind energy.
  • This project will be on-going for several years and will involve different phases of design, construction and management.
